The Children’s Wish Foundation

The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada is the authority on wish granting in our country.  With 25 years of wish granting, and over 15,000 wishes behind us, we have fulfilled more wishes for children in Canada than any other wish granting agency.

What began in 1983, on the kitchen table of an inspired and committed volunteer, named Laura Cole, has blossomed into a national organization with chapters in every province.  From humble beginnings granting fewer than 20 wishes a year The Foundation has established the capacity to fulfill upwards of 800 wishes annually.

The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada is extremely proud of the fact that we have never denied an eligible child a wish and that we have been able to fulfill some of the most complex wishes imaginable.

Granting wishes to children with high-risk life-threatening illnesses is our primary line of business and the most powerful way in which The Children’s Wish Foundation fulfils its mandate. Staff and volunteers work tirelessly to maintain the highest quality of service to our wish families with attention to the most minute details so as to ensure the total satisfaction of each and every wish child.

We owe our success to the hundreds of thousands of Canadians who have contributed their time, talents and money over the years to help us make wishes come true.

CARE is Canada’s global force dedicated to defending dignity and fighting poverty by empowering the world’s most vulnerable and greatest resource for change : women and girls. We proudly partner with Canadians from coast to coast, and in the communities in which we work, to make this goal a reality.

Mission
CARE Canada’s mission is to serve individuals and families in the poorest communities in the world. Drawing strength from our global diversity, resources and experience, we promote innovative solutions and are advocates for global responsibility. We facilitate lasting change by:
• Strengthening capacity for self-help;
• Influencing policy decisions at all levels;
• Providing economic opportunity;
• Addressing discrimination in all its forms;
• Delivering relief in emergencies.
Guided by the aspirations of local communities, we pursue our mission with both excellence and compassion because the people whom we serve deserve nothing less.

Vision
We seek a world of hope, tolerance and social justice, where poverty has been overcome and people live in dignity and security.

CARE Canada will be a global force and a partner of choice within a worldwide movement dedicated to ending poverty. We will be known everywhere for our unshakable commitment to the dignity of people.

IFAW

Since 2009, myself and staff from the Humane Society of Cozumel have been visiting Cozumel`s municipal dump to rescue puppies and kittens and also to provide medical attention to each of the dogs and cats that have been being cared for by the two men that live on the premises. This care has included vaccinating, sterilizing and also providing any other emergency medical care deemed necessary.

We have just received word that a new company will be taking over the dump and they will be evicting all of the animals – 13 dogs and six cats. For some of these animals, the dump is all they have ever known and they have lived there since birth – for as long as nine years. They are being forced to separate from both their human and animal families. And, sadly, there is no place for these animals to go. The local humane society shelter is completely full and already overwhelmed with animals, and if abandoned, they will face an almost certain death.

Several dogs at the municipal dump in Cozumel are facing displacement and homelessness. © IFAW.org – Joaquin de la Torre Ponce (78) Right now, we are putting together a plan to rescue these animals. It is likely that these animals have to be out of the dump in the coming weeks or even days and we are furiously working to find temporary foster homes for them. Once the animals are out of immediate danger, we will need to carefully assess the health and condition of each and every one of them before exploring options for rehoming.

It is a long road ahead for these animals but we are determined to find a way to keep them alive and give them the second chance at life they deserve.

Please check back to the blog regularly for continuous updates on this developing story.

Charity in the new decade

Sandy and Tanya Hutchens feel that it is our obligation and, indeed, our pleasure to give back to the community and to the charities that know how to work in their independent areas of expertise to effectively help those who need it, Whether it is in the area of medical causes, poverty concerns, or animal rights issues we feel that we are fortunate and privileged to be able to contribute.
